RWPZ is currently recruiting a full-time, year-round, non-exempt Mechanic. Under the general supervision of the Facility Director, the individual in this position is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of Zoo apparatus and equipment including automotive and construction equipment. The mechanic is also responsible for procuring equipment as well as parts for repairs and maintenance of equipment.
Responsibilities
· Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, tests, troubleshoots, and basic repairs to all Zoo vehicles and motorized equipment, including, but not limited to, heavy equipment, Gators, E-Z go carts, tire changes, oil changes, belt replacements and body work.
· Maintains detailed maintenance records of vehicles and equipment including maintenance, repairs, and applicable expenses.
· Maintain and repair Zoo Carousel, Zoo Trains and all hydraulic gates.
· Follow all Zoo safety procedures in regard to driving and maintaining Zoo vehicles and motorized equipment.
· Receive work orders and PMs from the facility Director or COO pertaining to maintenance, construction and repair of Zoo vehicles.
· Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
· Fuel all Zoo motor vehicles, equipment and gas and diesel cans.
· Always maintain a clean and safe work storage area.
· Participate in snow and ice removal according to the Snow & Ice Removal policy.
· Perform other tasks as assigned by the Facility Director or COO.
· Provide support to the Operations department as needed, including emergency response for crowd control and evacuation.
Required Experience, Training and/or Education
Required Experience and Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus three to five years of automotive, heavy equipment and maintenance and repair. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of power and construction tools, their proper usage and safety requirements through minimum of one year related work experience.
Preferred Experience and Education:
Recent experience working with diverse populations and fluency speaking additional languages.
Competencies
· Proficiency in the use of all tools related to the maintenance and repair of motorized vehicles, heavy equipment and related parts.
· Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals for all Zoo equipment.
· Cooperative attitude.
· Sound computer knowledge and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
· Highly organized and able to work with minimal supervision.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to.
o Perform both small and large engine repairs.
o Troubleshoot and resolve equipment failures effectively and efficiently.
o Operate, lift and carry appropriate hand and air power tools and other mechanic equipment.
o Use hydraulic lifts, air and electrical impact wrenches, welders, etc.
Additional Requirements
· Successful completion of a background check.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Willingness to work flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.
· Ability to work outdoors under various weather conditions.
· Willingness to be on-call for Zoo emergencies, including severe weather conditions.
· Maintenance of state certification to operate heavy equipment.
· Occasionally life and or move up to 50 pounds.
· Comfortable working in confined spaces and climbing a ladder to a minimum of 25 feet.
· Operate a snow blower and snow plow during snowstorms.
