POSITION SUMMARY
The BTS Mechanic is responsible for preventative maintenance tasks, troubleshooting and/or highly technical or intricate diagnostic repairs. Task assignments will be directed to encourage skill development in a productive manner. The BTS Mechanic reports to the Service Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNTIONS
- Operate all types of vehicles, equipment and tools
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and ensures the timely and effective repair of any problems identified during an inspection
- Diagnose, service and repair various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment
- Troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment by diagnosing problems, disassembling units, repairing, replacing parts and reassembling the equipment or machine
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper and safe operating condition
- Perform routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment, machinery and adjusting various pieces of equipment
- Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly
- Attach test instruments to equipment, dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions
- Rebuild gas or diesel engines
- Use automotive servicing equipment, such as A/C recycler, hydraulic jack or emission analyzer
- Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, technical drawings and schematics
- Maintain service logs and records of work completed on all units
- Keep work area, equipment and tools clean, organized and in good working condition
- Troubleshoot electronic & hydraulic errors
- Performs proficient inspection, diagnosis & moderately complex repair of assigned vehicles and equipment
- Provides assistance, guidance and direction to other maintenance personnel by working with them on vehicle/equipment repairs and maintenance issues
- Maintain clean work area
- Other work or projects as requested by the Shop Foreman and/or Service Manager
