Position Purpose:
This position is a key team member of our team-based work system utilized by Transport Enterprise Leasing in our reconditioning body shop department. The Body Shop Technician – Painter provides our internal and external customers with high-quality paint refinish work as outlined by TEL standards. Initially 30 to 60 days with opportunity for extensions and/or Full time employment based on need and good performance.
Position Responsibilities:
- Review each work order, and assessment teams notes to understand repairs needed prior to beginning work on the truck.
- Prepare surface and apply single stage paint and blend.
- Perform initial teardown of truck and prepare for repair work.
- Notifies management of any difficulties or problems that may prevent a quality job from being performed or cause a change in the promised time.
- Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
- Checks parts against estimate and ensures proper parts are ordered and received.
- Perform all repair procedures according to factory specifications and company policy.
- Re-assemble painted truck and painted parts.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner and maintains tools and equipment in a proper state of repair.
- Perform a final quality check and review of work order prior to sending the truck to the next stage in the reconditioning process.
- Work with apprentice or lesser skilled technicians in developing repair skills.
- Team Based Work System –assigned routinely as the Team Leader who is responsible for overseeing the operations, the planning/coordination of work and the quality of the body shop to ensuring that equipment repairs are carried out efficiently and to TEL standards.
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities:
- Professionally apply single stage paints and blend when needed.
- Wet sand and buff- knows how to wet sand and buff.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the manufacturers and technical repair process.
- Able to apply, sand, finish Fiberglass/ SMC, Plastics, Metal/ Steel and Aluminum.
- Must have through knowledge of Automotive paint refinishing – single stage applications.
- Preferred knowledge of welding Steel, Aluminum and Plastic.
- Must own and provide paint gun(s) and tools for the job.
- Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.
- Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
- Excellent communication skills.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of related experience and/or training.
Wage: $25 to $30 per hour
