Paint preppers are responsible for preparing the surface of the utility body before they are painted. This may involve removing any existing paint, rust, dirt, etc., and ensuring that the surface is clean and ready to accept new paint.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Mixing paint materials to create custom colors for customers’ projects.
- Cleaning brushes and other tools used for painting projects.
- Preparing surfaces for painting by removing old paint, priming surfaces, or applying other surface preparations as needed.
- Mixing dyes with solvents to create custom paint formulas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Thorough understanding of how prep work needs to be done.
· Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise prep of utility bodies.
· Must have attention to detail this is a crucial skill for paint preppers because it ensures that the paint job is done correctly. Paint preppers should be able to notice any flaws in the surface of the object they’re painting and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the paint job is done correctly. This can include making sure the paint is applied to the correct area and that the paint is applied evenly.
· Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
· Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to see details at close range.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
· Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours at a time.
