As a Diesel Technician, you are a valued member of our team, responsible for repairing and maintaining our customer’s Medium & Heavy-Duty Trucks. This includes diagnosing issues, preventative maintenance, repairs, disassembly and reassembly, and writing detailed work notes.
Essential Duties:
Technical:
- Maintain proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of all assigned equipment.
- Maintain proficiency in the rebuilding of major components on assigned equipment.
- Ensure accurate diagnosis and the effective repair and/or replacement of components necessary for the proper functioning of assigned equipment.
- Perform Service calls for emergency breakdowns.
Administrative
- Interact effectively, courteously, professionally with customers, vendors, and other employees regarding vehicle repairs and other shop business.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicates with service advisor/dispatcher immediately on repair updates and or delays.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
Health, and Safety:
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean. Notifies service advisor/dispatcher immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Operates all tools/equipment in a safe manner and reports any safety issues immediately to management.
Preferred Candidates Qualifications:
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with only limited resources.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Education & Licenses
- High School Diploma and/or GED required
- Three (3) to five (5) years of Diagnostic experience required.
- College or Technical training preferred, but not required.
- Driver's License Required. Prefer CDL but not required.
- Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ASE Certification a plus
- Cummins Engine Repair Certification a plus
- Basic computer skills

- Use of torque wrenches, air powered tools or hand tools.
- Use of arms in a raised position above shoulder level for prolonged periods of time. Use of creeper or rolling devices to enable tech to work underneath vehicles.
- The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- The employee is required to stand and sit for extended periods of time (hours) while making repairs.
- Entry or exit from the cab of the vehicle.
- Climb to a safe position to access the engine compartment area, firewall or roof of a vehicle to perform repairs.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to push/pull large tool chest from vehicle to vehicle.
