What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated individual to accelerate our vehicle-level testing of autonomous vehicles. The Autopilot Test Engineering Technician will support Tesla’s development team with vehicle-level testing, fabrication of test instrumentation and vehicle fleet maintenance. The role requires a highly organized professional who can manage multiple time critical projects simultaneously in a very fluid schedule.
This full-time role requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 30%) to various domestic and international destinations when necessary, to test vehicles on public roads, test tracks and Proving Grounds.
What You'll Do
- Execute Tesla test procedures in the areas of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Vehicle Dynamics, and Range under the leadership of test engineers (Pedestrian Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, or Road Departure Avoidance, for example)
- Prepare vehicles for testing, including instrumentation installation, part changes, and vehicle diagnostics
- Design and build new instrumentation or test equipment as needed.
- Lead on & off-site test trips, including management and support of other technicians and operators in test vehicle setup and test execution
- Work with internal and external test labs and proving grounds to direct testing activities
- Mentor less-experienced technicians and operators to develop their skills and knowledge
- Document results of testing and communicate issues found to the lead test engineer
What You'll Bring
- 2-year automotive degree or equivalent technical credentials
- In-depth knowledge of modern vehicle systems and how they operate
- Some exposure to vehicle testing, specifically related to Vehicle Dynamics, Chassis Dynos or Autonomous Vehicles, is preferred
- Some fabrication skills preferred
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Must be comfortable driving prototype vehicles at (or over) their limit on closed courses
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment

Expected Compensation
$28.80 - $43.20/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
