JOB
The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repair activities on police squad cars and other City vehicles and equipment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Inspects vehicles, trucks and equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions and repair needs.Performs mechanical repairs on various vehicles and heavy equipment, including police squad cars, sedans, vans, pickup trucks, light trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, bucket trucks, spreaders and plow equipment.Tests and repairs electronic equipment in vehicles such as ignition systems, computerized engine controls, fuel injection systems and emission systems.Performs preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles in operable condition, which may include checking and replacing fluids, lubricating parts, replacing parts and rotating tires. Installs radio, computer and other electronic equipment in police cars and other City vehicles.Performs small engine repairs on various hand tools and equipment including air conditioner systems, chain saws, generators, lawn mowers and blowers.Performs paint and bodywork.Maintains inventory control of parts, equipment, tools or supplies; assists in conducting periodic inventory counts.Maintains records of preventive and corrective maintenance on all vehicles and equipment serviced.Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects; transports vehicles to outside repair and body shops.Utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; follows safety procedures when working on equipment.Cleans and maintains tools, equipment and work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.Attends various seminars, workshops and classes to keep abreast of new technology and techniques and to enhance performance.Non-essential Job Functions: Performs other related duties as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
High school diploma or GED, supplemented by vocational or technical training in auto mechanics. Three (3) years of experience as an auto mechanic.Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
