Mechanic 2
This position is responsible for overhauling and performing complete repairs to all Facility Services mobile equipment such as, but not limited to (cars, vans, pickup trucks, specialty trucks, backhoes, construction equipment, street sweepers, hydraulic man lifts, diesel engines, emergency generators grounds maintenance equipment, etc.) Actual work may be located at various locations throughout campus. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
Specific duties are, but not limited to the following:
Job Duties:
45%- Inspect equipment as scheduled for preventive maintenance and perform all necessary functions to keep equipment in a safe operating condition and to prolong the life of the equipment.
10%- Overhaul/repair/rebuild drive line assemblies such as flywheels, clutches, differentials, transmissions, UV joints, swing bearings, PTO gearboxes, etc.
10%- Perform overhauls as well as minor repairs to mechanical equipment such as engines (gasoline and diesel) lift mechanisms on construction equipment, sweeper mechanisms, winches, etc.
10%- Use electronic test equipment such as a Diagnostic System 4000 Computer, voltmeters, ohmmeters, etc. to test circuits on the above equipment as well as other electronic circuits such as blowers, cooling fans, safety devices or other warning/protective circuits/relays.
10%- Consult wiring diagrams and other technical data to diagnose problems and make repairs as needed to electronic ignition systems on service trucks as well as starter relays and warning systems on emergency generators (24 volt system) as well as electric over hydraulic relays to lift trucks and other construction equipment and street sweepers
5%- Assists with repair of hydraulic systems such as those on hydraulic lift gates, man lifts, backhoe loaders, bucket trucks, and hydraulic brake systems.
5%- Diagnose problems, replace components and perform complete overhaul/rebuild of vehicular air conditioning systems by replacing components such as condensers, evaporators, compressors, driers, orifices, etc.
5%- Provide feedback to supervisory personnel to order parts as needed for repairs or to restock parts needed on a regular basis. Provide assistance to other mechanics or other craft personnel as necessary to repair mechanical equipment when needed. Perform other related duties as required.
