PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, diagnoses, maintains repairs and services a wide variety of diesel, gasoline and natural gas-powered equipment and vehicles; operates a variety of hand, power and shop tools; and performs related duties as assigned. This position is primarily scheduled as a second shift position. This position will report directly to the Preventive Maintenance Coordinator.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Always maintain safe work practices per company and federal policies.
- Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
- Ability to workday or night shift as needed to perform preventive maintenance practices necessary to increase service life of equipment.
- Heavy equipment parts familiarization including parts catalogs, filters, and oils.
- Maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, and public.
- Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for job completion;
- Be able to be trained to operate various makes and models of equipment.
- Perform equipment inspections after completing each job.
- Perform record keeping of time and parts used on the appropriate forms.
- Assist other maintenance department staff in performing the duties necessary to assure the efficiency of operations of vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
- Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions;
- Be able to perform DOT inspections on over the trucks and trailers.
- Maintain work area appearance and safety.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
- Valid driver’s license
- Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate, G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience (preferred);
- Vocational / Technical School or certification preferred, but not necessary.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Great attention to detail and stress tolerance.
- Must be willing to work weekends and extended hours.
- 2 or more years’ experience in diesel truck and heavy equipment preferred but not required
- Must own tools.
- Proficiency in the use of shop tools required and ownership of mechanic set;
- Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred but not required.
