Position: Shop Manager
Job Description:
Forward Air, Inc. is looking for a self-motivated individual to join the maintenance team as Shop Manager. Duties include all aspects of managing Technicians who repair vehicles, trailers, and other mechanical equipment of Forward Air, while adhering to the compliance of all Forward Air Policies, safe work practices, and high customer service.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
- Hire, train, schedule and manage day to day activities of Fleet Maintenance Technicians
- Evaluate status of mechanical equipment, trailers, and vehicles, and supervise needed repairs
- Conduct various analysis and inspections of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair, or replacement
- Manage Parts Inventory as directed
- Supervise Technicians who perform the following:
- Maintain equipment according to DOT regulations
- Perform routine truck, trailer, and/or forklift P.M.s
- Perform tire mounting/dismounting and repairs
- Perform minor cosmetic repairs
- Perform roadside repairs
- Maintain regular and dependable attendance
- Maintain work area, tools, and equipment
- Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools
- Perform minor building and facility maintenance
- Perform Data Entry in Maintenance Software to track repairs
- Keep shop and company tools clean and in good working order
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Prior experience with truck, trailer, and/or vehicle repair
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Desire for a long-term career with an industry leading company
- Ability to present and maintain a positive corporate image in a fast-paced environment
- Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (extended hours as required)
Skills:
- The ideal candidate will possess a “can do" attitude with a “will do" work ethic
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and a “hands on” engagement style to motivate the maintenance team to achieve company KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) to meet internal and external customer needs
- Must have the ability to work in a fast- paced environment
- Strong computer skills including Maintenance Software, Excel, and Word
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
