As a Mechanic Shop Assistant, you will provide essential support to our mechanics and fleet team to ensure that company vehicles and equipment are maintained efficiently, safely, and economically. From assisting with repairs to maintaining a clean and organized shop, you will play a key role in optimizing operations, ensuring detailed records are kept, and contributing to a safe and productive environment.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Fleet Maintenance and Repairs
- Assist mechanics in performing preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles, including excavators, loaders, roll-offs, and pump trucks
- Support with troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues and diagnosing defects
- Perform minor tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, equipment greasing, and tire checks as directed
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment and vehicles under supervision
- Operate equipment and vehicles when needed to support repair and maintenance activities
- Research and order parts for repairs, ensuring timely delivery
- Test mechanical products and equipment post-repair to verify performance and compliance with specifications
Shop Maintenance and Organization
- Clean and organize the shop regularly, returning tools and equipment to their proper locations
- Maintain inventory of tools and supplies, reporting shortages to the Shop Manager
- Ensure all safety devices and emergency shutdown procedures are functioning and accessible
- Support compliance with company policies and safety protocols
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate records for all services, repairs, and incidents related to vehicles and equipment
- Complete documentation such as work orders, preventative maintenance logs, checklists, and supply requisitions
- Assist with organizing and filing fleet paperwork to ensure completeness and accessibility
- Communicate updates to the team regarding changes or improvements in procedures
Other Responsibilities
- Contribute to creating a culture of safety by staying current with best practices and reporting unsafe conditions
- Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge
- Take initiative in identifying process improvements and finding ways to improve efficiency
- Perform other duties as assigned by the management

Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds
- Comfortable twisting, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and climbing on equipment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Positive attitude with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Basic mechanical knowledge and familiarity with tools and equipment
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or during emergencies
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and inventory management
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Computer & Smog Systems
- Knowledge of Tractor/trailer air brake systems
- Experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
- Experience in fleet maintenance
