Job Summary: The Shop Foreperson supervises the service shop's daily operations, ensuring that repairs and maintenance are completed efficiently and to the highest standards. This role involves managing a team of technicians, coordinating work assignments, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct regular meetings with technicians to discuss job performance, address concerns, and ensure alignment with dealership goals.
- Oversee the scheduling and workflow of service orders, ensuring timely and efficient completion of repairs and maintenance.
- Monitor the progress of repairs, ensuring that work is performed to dealership standards and that quality control procedures are followed.
- Address customer concerns and complaints related to service issues, providing resolutions and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Ensure that technicians communicate effectively with customers regarding vehicle issues, repairs, and maintenance recommendations.
- Provide technical guidance and support to technicians on complex repair issues or diagnostic problems.
- Test drive vehicles after completing repairs or routine maintenance to ensure that the issue has been resolved. Stay updated with the latest automotive technology and repair techniques to provide accurate and effective solutions.
- Oversee the inventory of parts and tools, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Ensure that shop equipment is well-maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition

- Promote a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety guidelines and conducting regular safety inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of service orders, technician performance, and customer feedback.
- Prepare reports on shop performance, including productivity, efficiency, and quality metrics.Work closely with the Service Manager and other department heads to coordinate service activities and address operational issues.
- Collaborate with the parts department to ensure timely availability of required parts and materials.
- Maintain satisfactory attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years of hands-on experience working as an automotive technician.
- Proven experience in automotive repair, including a background in leadership or supervisory roles.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; required to have California driver's license within 10 days following date of hire.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Automotive technician certification.
- Excellent communication skills, both in writing and in person.
- Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the associates may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English).
- Extensive experience as an automotive technician, with a strong background in vehicle repair and diagnostics.
- Previous supervisory or management experience in an automotive service environment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of automotive systems and repair procedures.
- Familiarity with dealership software and diagnostic tools.
Physical Demands:
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and work in various positions (e.g., bending, kneeling) for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Ability to frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in tight spaces.
- Frequently bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
Environment/Noise:
- Work in well-ventilated and well-lit repair shop.
- Exposure to hazardous conditions and equipment that may result in minor injuries.
- Frequent use of protective gear such as goggles and earplugs.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, something in cramped spaces and awkward positions.
- Regular exposure to contaminants such as antifreeze and chemical degreasers.
- Work in close proximity to other technicians and mechanics.
