Position Title: Mechanic

Department: Public Works

Position Type FULLTIME Non-exempt Employee/Bargaining Unit-NAGE-Local RI-177

Reports to: Director of Public Works

Rate of pay: 31.02 per hour 40 hour work week per NAGE current contract

Responsibilities include but not limited too:

Works under the General Supervision of the Director of Public Works

Essential Duties & Functions:

Diagnosis’s maintains and repairs; trucks, automobiles, heavy equipment and other equipment as assigned. Inspects vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately. Inspects vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade. Conducts routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity. Schedules future maintenance sessions and advises operators on good vehicle use. Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks). Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job. Keep logs on work and issues. Maintain equipment and tools in good condition

Supervisory:

As required oversees work performed by and job performance of subordinate workers.

Preferred Education And/or Experience:

Graduation from trade school with two years’ experience or five years employment as a mechanic of heavy equipment/vehicles. Certifications are preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Strong analytical ability, including the ability to make decisions in working toward assigned objectives, modifying work methods and standards to meet variations in controlling condition. Must have significant knowledge of mechanical equipment and testing equipment. Must be resourceful, and self-motivated. CDL with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsement.
