The Automotive Repair Technician will be directly involved in the repair and diagnosis of major components or remove/replace major components as applicable to automotive and light truck vehicles. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with minimal supervision: Engine Mechanical, Engine Control Systems, Electric Systems, Hydraulic Brake Systems, Suspension Systems, Heating/ Air Conditioning Systems, Instruments and Gauges, and Preventive Maintenance Service.

Major Responsibilities of the Automotive Service Technician/Mechanic:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of, with some assistance: Engines, Power Train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, Electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, Steering & Suspension systems, Electronics to include ECM's, PCM’s, ECU's, sensors etc.
- Perform all levels of diagnosis and repair on automobile and light truck vehicles
- Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
- Identify warranty repairs and document on repair order
- Maintain clean work area and follow all safety policies
- Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Provide and use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and measuring instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, and pressure gauges.
- Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for "trade-ins" and prepare new equipment for delivery.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications of the Automotive Service Technician/Mechanic:
- Some practical experience with automotive repair and service is required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Vocational/Technical or certification preferred
- Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components is a plus
- Proficiency in the use of shop tools required
- A valid driver’s license is required
- A valid PA Safety Inspection License and PA Emissions Inspector license is required.
- Basic computer skills required for data entry into Dealer Management Systems.
