Job Summary:
The Automotive Mechanic/Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicle systems and components. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work to ensure customer satisfaction and vehicle safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues in vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension systems.
- Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks.
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and troubleshoot vehicle issues accurately.
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify potential safety concerns or future maintenance needs.
- Perform advanced repairs and component replacements, including engine overhauls, transmission rebuilds, and electrical system repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including parts used and labor hours, in accordance with company and manufacturer standards.
- Test drive vehicles before and after repairs to ensure issues have been resolved and the vehicle is operating safely.
- Communicate with the Service Advisor to provide detailed explanations of repairs needed, estimated costs, and timelines.
- Stay up to date with the latest automotive technology, tools, and repair techniques through ongoing training and certification programs.
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited automotive technology program is preferred.
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or equivalent is highly desirable.
- 2 years of experience as an automotive technician, with experience in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicle systems preferred.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, shop equipment, and repair software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair guides.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members and customers.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to various weather conditions and automotive fluids.
Working Hours:
This position may require working various shifts, including evenings and weekends, based on business needs.
