Position: Body Shop Technician - Automotive Painter
Job Status: Non-Exempt; Full-time
Reports to: Body Shop Manager/CEO
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
This position uses a variety of tools and techniques to restore and repair aged or damaged vehicles to their original structural integrity, function, and appearance, according to customer’s specifications. Primary focus is painting vehicles and parts. This position has the ability to lead, assign and coordinate tasks among team members.
I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Examines vehicles based on project needs, safety, function, and customer specifications to determine appropriate repairs needed.
● Measures area to be painted; determines quantity and type of paint to use for the project and makes recommendations as needed.
●Identifies and orders appropriate paint colors, finishes, and supplies as needed.
●Mix and thin paint and other coatings to specified color and consistency according to standard formulas or color charts.
●Prepares surfaces to be painted including removing prior finishes through chemical applications, grit blast, sanding, and other methods.
●Masks, removes, covers, or otherwise protects non-painted surfaces.
●Applies paint to interior and exterior surfaces using sprayers, airbrushes, stencils, and other tools.
●Complies with chemical and waste storage and disposal regulations and best practices.
●Works with a variety of metals and plastics, as well as glass, electrical, and mechanical parts.
●Communicates with Body Shop Manager or Owner immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
●Ensures the vehicle, workspaces, and shop are kept clean.
●Support other technicians and supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
●Maintain daily logs of work performed in Klutchn database
●Other duties as assigned
II. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
●Proven experience as a body shop technician.
●Ability to determine scope of work needed to bring vehicle up to specifications.
●Excellent active listening, problem solving, verbal communication and leadership qualities.
●Working knowledge of all aspects of repairs for damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles.
●Ability to handle and operate various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift)
●Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, chemicals, etc.
●Self-motivated, independent, and reliable with a strong work ethic
III. DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
●Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred
●Experience welding, sanding, priming, filler application, metal finishing
●Spies/Axalta solvent paint technician certification
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
●Must be 19 year of age
●Must have high school diploma or GED
●Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a body shop technician or similar experience
●Must be authorized to work in the United States
●Must have a valid driver’s license
●Must pass criminal background check

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, sit, stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must use hands to handle or feel and must be able to communicate and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with chemicals and odors present.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
