Purpose of Job
To provide students with opportunities to build the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a variety of careers or enter into postsecondary learning in the automotive industry, emphasizing beginning transportation service skills and workplace success skills. Students will study safety, tools, equipment, shop operations, basic engine fundamentals, and basic technician skills. Upon completion of the Maintenance and Light Repair pathway courses, students should be qualifies to sit for the ASE Certified MLR Technician certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as
exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Designs program lessons and activities following the expectation of the five CTE Size, Scope, and Quality Indicators (SSQI).
Teaches academic and technical skills and knowledge aligned to state standards in the assigned subject area required for successful job performance.
Facilitates activities that allow students to develop their employability and leadership skills, emphasizing the importance of reliability, efficiency, promptness, good attitude, and thoughtful work habits.
Organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, lab work, and clean up activities can be accomplished satisfactorily within the allotted time.
Consults regularly with professionals outside of the school system to understand current industry expectations and ensure that displays, materials, activities and demonstrated skills, techniques, and processes shared with students are as accurate and realistic as possible.
Collects and submits evidence, on an annual basis, showcasing that the program of study meets SSQI expectations.
Communicates with parents, counselors, administrative and supervisory personnel and community representatives to share information regarding innovations and current job requirements and post-secondary opportunities in related fields.
Collaborates with district staff and the school level Inventory Control Representative to conduct a biannual review of assigned equipment; follows all district protocols for the reporting of broken/damaged equipment, the acquisition of new equipment, or the removal/disposal of unwanted equipment.
Ensures students follow appropriate safety precautions and instructs in the conservative sensible use of tools, materials, machinery, and equipment.
Organizes and provides opportunities for students to participate in Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) activities as an integral part the assigned subject area.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation.
Establishes and communicates clear outcomes for all lessons, class work, and projects. The outcomes are communicated to students.
Supports the program of study, using a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media/resources and technology.
Serves as a model for the district’s mission, vision and goals.
Assesses the progress of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
Recognizes potential learning disabilities of students and seeks the assistance of qualified personnel.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so.
Plans, supervises, and provides guidance for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
Attends and participates in staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
Analyzes and uses appropriate data to guide instruction and develop assessments.
Maintains a standard of performance and conduct as required by state, law, local board of education and community expectations.
Provides detailed plans for substitute teachers including lessons, schedules and rules regarding classroom organization, procedures and individual student needs.
Supervises pupils at school related functions to include on and off campus activities.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities.
Assists in budget preparation and in the selection of books, instructional supplies, materials and equipment.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE )Automobile and Light Truck Certification Tests: Suspension and Steering A-4, Brakes A-5, Electrical/Electronic Systems A-6, and Engine Performance A-8; OR Automotive Service Excellence (ASE ) Auto Maintenance and Light Repair G-1; OR Specific Manufacturer Technician Training (i.e. Ford Technician Training or Toyota Technician Training); PLUS
A valid Tennessee Teacher’s Certificate with the Automotive 6-12 (770) endorsement; OR
- High School Diploma and 3 years of relevant work experience within the last 5 years; OR
High School Diploma and 5 years of relevant work experience within the last 10 years; OR;
Postsecondary technical school certificate in Automotive Technology and 2 years of relevant work experience within the last 10 years; OR
Associate degree in Automotive Technology and 1 year of relevant work experience, within the last 10 years; OR
Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology
AND successful student teaching experience if applicable OR intent to enroll in an Educator Prep Program for Occupationally Licensed Teachers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines. Must be able to use body members to work,
move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or
up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active
work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weight of twenty to forty pounds.
