The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Administration, Assets and Resource Management Bureau, Automotive Garage, has a full-time vacancy for Automotive Mechanic, SOC Title 49-3020 AUTOMOTIVE TECHS-3. This position has a 40 hour work week and is considered non-exempt.
SUMMARY: To perform a variety of skilled mechanical work and automotive services to the Department of Safety’s (DOS) fleet of vehicles while adhering to all safety procedures and protocols. To perform major repairs, such as engine replacements and transmission repairs, as well as general maintenance, such as oil changes.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree
36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree
54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent. Possession of an Associate's degree in automotive mechanics from a recognized college or technical school may be substituted for the apprenticeship training.
Experience: Two years' experience as a journeyman mechanic in a large commercial or highway garage repairing motor vehicles, and related equipment. Two additional years of approved work experience may be substituted for the Associate's degree.
License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess a valid NH Mechanic Approval Card or obtain certification to perform state inspections within 90 days of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
Must provide own standard assortment of hand tools used in the trade up to 1” in diameter.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates computerized test equipment to accurately identify and diagnose malfunctions to electrical and mechanical components of fleet vehicles and equipment. Recommends solutions to repairs and maintenance problems, if necessary.
Performs routine maintenance work on DOS fleet vehicles, to include oil changes, fluid replacements, filter replacements, tire changes/ rotations, and engine tune-ups to maintain fleet vehicle functionality, performance and reliability.
Performs general repairs to defective vehicles or mechanical equipment utilizing appropriately selected methods to ensure the safe operation of the DOS fleet vehicles.
Conducts complete unit replacement of engines, transmissions, differentials, and all related components of mechanical equipment necessary to operate DOS fleet vehicles.
Conducts New Hampshire motor vehicle inspections to the specifications listed in Saf-C 3200 and applies state inspection stickers to DOS fleet vehicles.
Maintains accurate electronic service records of DOS fleet vehicles, including parts ordered and work completed.
Conducts road tests on new and repaired vehicles to ensure the safe operation and proper functioning of the vehicle.
Operates flatbed tow truck for towing various fleet vehicles, when needed.
