General Purpose of Job:

Support Staff to assist with direct patient care within the Emergency Department in accordance with departmental & hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

Responds to requests for patient care tech level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner.
Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
Ensures emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response at all times.
Assists with codes and critical care patients within the emergency department at the patient care tech level, including interdepartmental transport and monitoring.
The patient care tech performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of Nursing with documentation of proper training and skills evaluation.
Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in assessing, prioritizing, and maintaining patient flow and assists in reassessing patient waiting to be seen.
Assists with patient care coordination and assists with arranging patient transfers
Responsibilities include supply restocking
Participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development
Provides basic patient care within scope of practice
Assists with IV starts, EKG testing, & Foley catheter placement after completing appropriate training
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required • BLS

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills. • Proficiency in acute care setting/Emergency care. • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
