Job Description
Performs set-up, adjustment, and operation of painting equipment to apply paint coatings to truck bodies and related equipment. Performs routine maintenance on paint equipment. Monitors painting operations and makes necessary adjustments to accommodate changes in temperature and humidity. Examines finished product to ensure conformance to specifications and company quality standards.
Essential Duties include the following:
- Applies undercoating, primer, and paint coatings to truck bodies and related equipment.
- Mixes paints and thinners to comply with process parameters.
- Performs body work and surface repair in compliance with company quality standards.
- Makes proper set-up and adjustment of equipment to ensure high paint quality.
- Notifies supervisor when paint stock is at minimum levels or materials for required job not in stock.
- Performs touch up paint as needed.
- Positions product in paint booth at a prescribed location for painting and moves product out of booth after painting.
- Performs routine maintenance on paint equipment and repairs minor breakdowns.
- Makes sure that paint booth filters are changed and cleaned at regular prescribed intervals.
- Makes sure that required personal protective equipment is kept clean and functional.
- Makes sure that paint booth is kept clean and high standards of good housekeeping is maintained.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Physical Demands
Position requires approximately 90% standing. Occasionally works in awkward positions, with bending and stooping required. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Must be capable of painting from a ladder at a vertical distance of ten feet. Must be capable of handling 55-gallon drums of paint by rolling into and out of position for drum change-over. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment
Position is based in a normal shop environment. Frequent physical activity such as kneeling, bending, squatting, stooping, lifting above shoulders is a part of daily activity as well as repetitive tasks involving hand and arm motion and lifting objects over 50 pounds. Must be able to push/pull parts carts and equipment with assistance. Working environment consists of: Exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, along with high levels of noise. Davis H Elliot enforces the Mandatory requirement to wear protective equipment.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of refinishing experience preferred
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a valid driver s license
- Comply with all safety requirements, respirator safety, and fitment/usage; maintain compliance to pass required safety mask fit test
- Able to effectively communicate with others, oral and written
- Ability to read and understand basic instructions, written estimates and work orders
- Multi-taking; adapts easily to fast-paced environment
