Position Overview:
The Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, providing maintenance and repair services on customer owned equipment at a customer’s establishment and/or service center within assigned territories while focusing on high quality service and customer satisfaction. Requires ability to work with minimal supervision, interact with customers, and complete paperwork accurately and timely. Must be skilled with mechanical and electrical tasks and own a complete set of hand tools. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record a must.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

- Provide preventative maintenance and repair services at service centers and/or customer accounts in accordance with established procedures and techniques, using proper tools, test equipment and replacement parts.
- Diagnose and complete electrical and mechanical repairs.
- Establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Assist region to achieve revenue goals as it relates to the sale of company products and services.
- Provide services to customers in accordance with the terms, conditions and responsibilities stated in the company’s published warranty and maintenance contract policies.
- Assess, provide cost estimates, and complete repairs for customer owned equipment.
- Ensure reports are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines.
- Participate and complete all required training programs, meetings and seminars.
- Adhere to and support all company policies and procedures.
- Engage in self-appraisal and continuous learning and development.
- Work flexible hours and weekend to meet business/customer needs.
- Participate in any and all reasonable work activities as deemed appropriate and assigned by management.
- Train other Technicians that are at or below the Technician I level.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Some shift work may be required.
- Performs on-call duties and responsibilities as required of all field service technicians.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work extended hours or outside assigned territory as needed.
- Strong technical/mechanical skills with an equivalent of no less than five (6) years’ experience with technical repairs.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without close supervision.
- Ability to deal effectively with all employees and external business contacts while conveying a positive, service-oriented attitude.
- Ability to train others in a detailed, comprehensive manner.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed on short notice and up to 25% of the time.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must have good organizational skills, aptitude for numbers, and experience coordinating and processing paperwork.
- Must have experience dealing with customers in difficult situations, good phone etiquette, and the ability to function in fast-paced environment.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma and/or equivalent combination of education or experience.
- Post-secondary vocational education strongly preferred.
- Educated in diesel engines, electronic diagnostics, hydraulics, and welding.
- Minimum of five (6-8) years’ experience with technical repairs on diesel engines.
- Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required; Detroit Diesel, Kohler, Waukesha and MTU product knowledge helpful.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The employee must lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Tool Requirements
- Have a complete set of hand tools.
Travel
Travel is primary local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area travel may be expected.
