Used Vehicle Technician Job Description
This position is for a trained vehicle technician and is NOT a trainee program. Persons interested must have their own tools and be ready to work on day 1. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
- Perform Repairs: Execute repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications.
- Test-Drive Vehicles: Test-drive vehicles and test components and systems using diagnostic tools and special service equipment.
- Maintain Shop Area: Keep the shop area neat and clean.
- Communicate with Parts Department: Obtain needed parts from the parts department.
- Inspect Fluid Levels: Inspect vehicle fluid levels and replace or replenish as necessary.
- Operate Tools Safely: Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Check Tire Pressure: Check tire pressure and add air if needed.
- Perform Inspections: Perform multi-point inspections on pre-owned vehicles.
- Recondition Vehicles: Recondition vehicles as per used car managers' authorization.
- Maintain Accountability: Maintain accountability for all dealership-owned tools and manuals.
- Drain and Refill Oil: Drain oil from the crankcase and refill with the required amount of oil.
- Replace Filters: Replace oil and air filters.
- Replace tires and wheel balance
- Perform wheel alignment
- Replace brakes and rotors
- Perform minor engine repairs
- Perform repairs to accessories and trim items
- Knowledge of HVAC systems
- Communicate with Service Advisor: Communicate directly with the Service Advisor to keep customers well-informed of any additional services needed.
- Provide Estimates: Provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs.
- Perform Work Efficiently: Perform work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with dealership standards.

- Background Check & Drug Screen: Willing to submit to a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

- Education: Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Customer Service Skills: Excellent customer service skills.
- Dexterity: Steady hand and excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Mechanical Skills: Mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Punctuality: Punctual and reliable.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills.
- Preferred Qualifications: Entry-level qualifications, including diagnostic, electrical, and engine repair preferred.
- Physical Dexterity: Strong physical dexterity for working with tools.
