Duties

Make repairs by removing, replacing, adjusting, installing or cleaning defective parts or components.
Use test equipment to locate worn or poorly adjusted parts.
Use motor vehicle on-board computers to diagnose problems, and electronic analyzers to test automotive computer control systems and emission systems.
Clean or replace filters, screens, battery cables and clamps, engine components, and heating and cooling devices.
Troubleshoot problems on diesel engines, such as combustion-powered generator systems including load equalizing units, and perform minor maintenance and repairs.
Troubleshoot, repair, and adjust gasoline, diesel, and/or multifuel engines and components to ascertain the reason for malfunctions to accomplish all necessary repairs.

Safety and Health – The incumbent performs duties in a supportive manner of a safe and healthy work environment and uses appropriate ergonomic principles for healthy office work.
Incumbent is subject to call-in during non-regular duty hours to perform emergency repairs to vehicles and respond to snow emergencies.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 09/27/2024. Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. Physical Effort:
Requires crawling, bending, standing, and working in various strained positions for a considerable portion of working time; close hand-and-eye coordination in performing critical assembly and adjustment tasks, heavy lifting, pulling, or pushing of assemblies.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed inside and outside. Work inside is performed in drafty quarters and incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, and fall form slippery floors. The nature of the work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. Outside work requires the incumbent to service cars in all types of weather and requires for on- and - off road service of vehicle.
