The Town’s Human Resources Department, on behalf of the Municipal Maintenance Department, is accepting applications for the full-time position of Mechanic. This is a forty (40) hour a week union position with on-call, overtime opportunities and a very generous benefits package, in accordance with the current union contract, including pension plans, paid time off and health/dental insurance (Town pays 68% of the health premium and 75% of the dental premium). The weekly pay also includes the payment of 2 additional hours (work 40 paid 42), paid at time and one-half, as a bonus for being in an on-call rotation (this adds $71.94 - $91.14 to the weekly pay).

Education and Experience: High school graduate or graduate of a trade school in automotive or other mechanical fields; five years’ experience in automobile, light and heavy truck repair; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Heavy equipment repair and knowledge of diesel and gas engines is desirable. Use of welding equipment and welding ability is necessary. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License. Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a Class B Driver’s License with applicable endorsements and a hydraulic license. Subject to CORI/SORI check, pre-employment physical and drug test.

Duties: Repairs and maintains a variety of vehicles (including buses), machines and various equipment. May operate the department’s equipment, including but not limited to grader, sweeper, light and heavy trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, etc. as required; may operate trucks for snowplowing and sanding; may perform a variety of unskilled and skilled manual laboring tasks as required.
